STAUNTON – Augusta County Clerk of Circuit Court R. Steven Landes today announced that two staff members recently were recognized for professional achievement. Deputy Clerk Sandra A. Harris, and Deputy Clerk Rachel L. Morgan recently achieved the Virginia Court Clerk’s Association (VCCA) Master Deputy Circuit Court Clerk Certification in October.
“The Augusta County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is very proud and pleased with both Sandy Harris’s and Rachel Morgan’s accomplishment,” Landes said. “Each and every day both demonstrate the professionalism and experience for which the Clerk’s Office Staff is well known in serving the Citizens of Augusta County.”
Mrs. Harris was hired full-time by Interim Clerk of Circuit Court Gina R. Coffey on June 3, 2019, and she serves in the Land Record Division. She achieved her VCCA Master Deputy Circuit Court Clerk Certification on October 3, 2022. Ms. Morgan was hired full-time by Mrs. Coffey on June 3, 2019, and she serves in the Criminal Division. She achieved her VCCA Master Deputy Circuit Court Clerk Certification on October 3, 2022.
The Augusta County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office now has eight staff members who have achieved the VCCA Master Deputy Circuit Court Clerk Certification designation. The VCCA Master Deputy Circuit Court Clerk Certification was developed for professional development for Circuit Court Clerk’s Office staff members and is administered by the VCCA Career Development Committee. A Clerk’s staff member must be employed full-time for at least three years, and complete 60 hours of professional development training to receive the special designation.
The Augusta County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is in downtown Staunton at the Augusta County Courthouse. The Clerk serves as the recorder of deeds and probate judge, issues marriage licenses and is the official court administrator for all civil and criminal cases. The Clerk creates and maintains all court files and records, prepares court orders and jury lists, contacts jurors and issues summons and court processes.
