The Landes Letter - July 2021 Edition

Friends,

I hope this email finds everyone doing well and staying safe. My focus this month is to provide updates from the Clerk's Office including my appointment to serve as the Co-Chairman of the Virginia Court Clerk's Association Legislative Committee, recent staff awards, and the dedication of the Augusta County Courthouse Virginia Highway Marker.

I have also included the latest photos from the Augusta County Courthouse virtual photograph tour. Please enjoy the latest photos.

Virginia Court of Clerk's Association

I was recently selected to serve as the Virginia Court Clerk’s Association (VCCA) Legislative Committee Co-Chairman. I will be one of 18 members of the Committee from across Virginia. In addition to this committee, I serve on the VCCA Public Relations Committee.

It is an honor to be selected to serve as a Co-Chairman of the Legislative Committee for the Virginia Court Clerk’s Association. I look forward to utilizing my 24 years of service in the House of Delegates to assist the Offices of the Clerk of Circuit Court concerning both budgetary and legislative issues that come before the Virginia General Assembly each session.

Staff Awards

Recently Lisa Eye, our Deputy Clerk in the Land Record Division, received our June Clerk's Light Bulb Award for the Brightest Suggestion for the past month. Lisa developed a design and layout for donated office cubicles in our Record Room, which provides a more efficient use of work space and providing services.

Virtual Photograph Tour

This is our continuing Augusta County Court House virtual photograph tour. This is our copy of the Proceedings of the Meeting of Freeholders of Augusta County held in Staunton on February 22, 1775. This meeting selected Augusta County's delegates to the Virginia Convention of March 20, 1775 in Richmond. Mr. Thomas Lewis and Captain Samuel McDowell were chosen as the Delegates.

This is our Third Liberty Loan Campaign Flag from World War I and it is located in our Jury Room. The Third Liberty Loan Drive was from April 24 - May 9, 1918, with a goal to raise $3 Billion in war bonds. The three strips designate the third campaign.

This is our First Officials of Augusta County Marble Marker at the Courthouse, which was donated by the Beverley Manor Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1901. These are the County's first officials on December 9, 1745.

This is our 1901 Courthouse Lady Justice Statue on the top of the dome. She holds the scales of justice and a sword. Unlike the Rockingham County Courthouse Lady Justice she has no blindfold.

On July 28th we dedicated and unveiled our Augusta County Courthouse Virginia Historical Highway Marker I 34 on the courthouse front lawn. Stop by and take a look at our new addition.
