Virtual Photograph Tour
This is our continuing Augusta County Courthouse virtual photograph tour. This is the document describing the construction of the 1773 Augusta County Jail. It refers to strong oak planks for the floors, “the walls to be grouted and arched and leveled with…cement,” as well as building separate “dungeons” for male and female criminals. The plan also includes a plan for the jailor to live in the front part of the building.
