The Landes Letter: July 2020 Edition

Friends,

I hope this email finds everyone doing well and staying safe. My focus this month is to highlight the Clerk's Office Internship and some of the COVID-19 resources available to Augusta County small business owners.

Additionally, I want to provide you with the newest photos from the Augusta County Courthouse virtual photograph tour.

Clerk's Office Internship

The Clerk’s Office is seeking high school and college students who wish to serve as interns. The Clerk’s Office will provide internship and mentorship opportunities to students who are interested in Virginia Government, the Virginia Judicial System or the law.

The Augusta County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office if very pleased to offer this unique educational opportunity to young people in Augusta County. These internships will allow our young people to see first-hand the work of the Circuit Court and the Clerk’s Office.

Interns will assist the Clerk’s Staff with several assignments and tasks. Interns may be assigned to work with the Clerk’s Staff in the Civil, Criminal, Court Administration, Land Record, Probate, and Accounting Divisions in the office. For those interested in applying to become a Clerk’s Office Intern, they should apply using the link below. Internship candidates will be required to complete an application and submit a cover letter and resume expressing their interest in serving.

**Please note, one college student and one high school student will be selected to serve as office interns each semester. A college student intern has been selected for the upcoming Fall 2020 semester. At this time, only high school student applications will be considered until the high school student position is filled.**

This is week twelve of our Augusta County Courthouse virtual photograph tour. This is the Civil Division Office on the first floor of the Courthouse. This office at one time was the Clerk of Circuit Court's office.

This is week thirteen of our Augusta County Courthouse virtual photograph tour. This is the Accounting Division Office on the first floor of the Courthouse. This is the only office that still has a fireplace for one of the two courthouse chimneys. At one time we believe this was the Augusta County Treasurer's Office in the early years of the courthouse.
This is week fourteen of our Augusta County Courthouse virtual photograph tour. This is the Court Administration Division Office on the first floor of the Courthouse. Our Deputy Clerk's who also act as our Court Reporters for all Criminal Cases work here.
I was surprised by this wonderful commissioned work of art of the Augusta County Courthouse. Julie Wilmoth Sheffer, Deputy Clerk, painted this one of a kind piece of art for me. She uses river stones for her original artwork.
