Friends,
I hope this email finds everyone doing well and staying safe. My focus this month is to provide updates from the Clerk's Office including upcoming changes to the Concealed Handgun Permit Training and a grant received.
I have also included the latest photos from the Augusta County Courthouse virtual photograph tour.
The Augusta County Circuit Court Clerk's Office will be closed on Thursday, December 24th and Friday, December 25th in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
The Clerk's office will also be closed on January 1st in observance of New Year's Day.
Concealed Hangun Permit Training Must Be In-Person In 2021
Beginning January 1, 2021, the training requirement to apply for a Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit must be in-person, and will no longer be allowed to be completed online.
The 2020 Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 264 and Senate Bill 263, which were signed into law by Governor Ralph Northam. The legislation changes Virginia Code §§ 18.2-308.02, and 18.2-308.06 and removes the option of the online training certification and requires that the training certification be in-person. This change takes effect January 1, 2021.I encourage citizens applying for a Concealed Handgun Permit to go to the Virginia State Police Website.
New permit applications must be brought to each Clerk’s Office, but renewal permit applications may be mailed to the Clerk’s Offices, with the appropriate documentation and fee. In addition, each Clerk’s Office may be called for information regarding lost or destroyed permits, or for change of addresses, or to request a replacement permit.

My office received notification of the approval of a Virginia Circuit Court Records Preservation Program (CCRP) grant application for the conservation and preservation of four historically significant records in the amount of $12,598. The notification was received from the Library of Virginia, who administers the program.
The Augusta County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is extremely pleased to have been successful in once again obtaining a Circuit Court Records Preservation Program Grant so that these four important records can be preserved for future generations. I am committed to preserving and conserving Augusta County’s historic records during my tenure as Clerk.
