VERONA, VA - Del. R. Steven Landes, R-Weyers Cave, toured Shamrock Farms today, a $50 million state-of-the-art dairy manufacturing facility in Augusta County, and discussed progress with Brent Sherman, Facility Manager.
“Shamrock Farms has taken advantage of House Bill 766, which I introduced in 2012,” Landes said. “My bill created the Governor's Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund, known as AFID, which established an economic development grant and loan program targeted specifically at agricultural and forestry operations.”
Shamrock Farms, one of the largest family-owned and operated dairies in the country, manufactures a wide array of fresh dairy products that can be found in retail chains and quick serve restaurants nationwide. Shamrock Farms products are made with state-of-the-art extended shelf life technology for the longest refrigerated shelf life in the business.
The plant in Augusta County received a $50,000 AFID grant which helped build the 130,000 square feet facility with future expansion possible. Presently employing over 50 people locally, Shamrock Farms sources its milk from Virginia-area farmers, and ensures that it meets high quality standards.
